Studios at MSR

Studios, MSR's after-school enrichment program, features a variety of themed activities and  workshops engaging MSR students in sports, STEM, French language, theater, dance, pottery and more! Sessions are available for Children’s House through Upper Elementary (Grade 6) and offered three times a year; fall, winter and spring. 

Recent sessions have included Chess with Triangle Chess, Active Imagination Movement with Sandi Walker, Beginning Engineering with Gear Shifters, Olympics Sports Camp with Amazing Athletes, and Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN).

Winter STUDIOS 2024

Winter Studio sessions are open to Children's House through Upper Elementary students. Studios are offered once a week for a period of five or six weeks and are either 45 minutes or one hour in length.

CHILDREN'S HOUSE STUDIOS

 

Golf Studio with TGA of Wake County (CH levels 3 & 4)

(Five weeks - five classes) 

Time: 3:15-4 p.m.

Cost: $125

Dates: Mondays 1/22, 1/29, 2/5, 2/12, 2/26 (no school or Studios on 2/19)

Age: CH levels 3 and 4

Minimum enrollment: 6      Maximum enrollment: 12  

Get ready to putt, chip, and drive, while having fun! TGA’s expert coaches will deliver age-appropriate skill introduction and etiquette lessons for golf.

Time: 3:15-4 p.m.

Cost: $150

Dates: Wednesdays 1/24, 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/21, 2/28

Age: CH level 4 and Kindergarten

Minimum enrollment: 6      Maximum enrollment: 12

Adventures in STEM with LEGO® - with Play-Well TEKnologies

(Six weeks - Six classes) 

Time: 3:15-4:15 p.m.

Dates: Tuesdays 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13, 2/20, 2/27

Age: Kindergarten

Minimum enrollment: 6       Maximum enrollment: 16

Creative collaborators will have fun with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Students can build elaborate objects, structures, and vehicles as they explore fundamental principles of engineering and physics. 

 

Art Studio with Ms. Dee

(Six weeks - Six classes) 

Time: 3:15-4 p.m.

Dates: Wednesdays 1/24, 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/21, 2/28

Age: All Children’s House

Minimum enrollment: 6       Maximum enrollment: 7

Join us for our Winter Art Studio where we will work with a variety of materials including clay, paint, and even some printmaking! Students will learn and create artworks that will spark their imagination along with acquiring new art techniques. 

 

Beginner Piano with Ms. Belle 

(Six weeks - Six classes) 

Time: 3:15-4 p.m.

Cost: $150

Dates: Wednesdays 1/24, 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/21, 2/28

Age: Kindergarten

Minimum enrollment:      Maximum enrollment: 6

In this beginner piano Studio inspired by the Montessori approach, children will embark on a journey into the magical world of piano. Through this immersive experience, children will learn the basics about the piano and reading music. Join us as we waltz together, step-by-step, starting from the humble beginnings of their very first note and unlocking the wonders of music. 

 

Baking Studio with Ms. Amaris

(Six weeks - Six classes each) 

Time: 3:15-4:15 p.m.

Cost: $200

Dates: Thursdays 1/25, 2/1,  2/8, 2/15, 2/22, 2/29

Age: CH level 4 and Kindergarten

Minimum enrollment: 6       Maximum enrollment: 6

In this Studio, students will have fun learning practical life skills including measuring, food preparations, kitchen safety, and grace and courtesy while preparing treats and dishes from different areas from around the world.

Basketball with i9 Sports 

(Six weeks - Six classes) 

Time: 3:15-4:15 p.m.

Cost: $200

Dates: Wednesday 1/24, 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/21, 2/28

Age: Kindergarten through 3

Minimum enrollment: 6       Maximum enrollment: 20

Get ready to dribble, pass, and shoot with i9’s Basketball Studio! Through age-appropriate practice plans, students will practice the fundamentals of basketball and play games to develop sportsmanship and values. 

 

Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary Studios

Join us for a fantastic fusion of ecological reuse, creativity, and mathematics! Using a range of techniques from textile and basketry arts, students will create beautiful and usable items with a variety of materials.

 

Violin with Ms. Jessica

(Six weeks - Six classes) 

Time: 3:15-4:00 p.m.

Cost: $150

Dates: Thursdays 1/25, 2/1,  2/8, 2/15, 2/22, 2/29

Age: Grades 1 and 2

Minimum enrollment: 6       Maximum enrollment: 8

Students will enjoy extra practice and fun with friends during violin Studio. The curriculum will be a continuation of what students are working on during their school-day violin class. We will also take a closer look at music theory concepts using the Music Mind Games curriculum. Parents are invited to join part of our final class for an informal performance and demonstration of our skills.

Gardening Plus Studio with Ms. Miller 

Time: 3:15-4:30 p.m.

Cost: $300

Dates: Mondays starting Monday, January 8 until May 20, 2024

Age: Lower & Upper Elementary

Maximum enrollment: 3

The Gardening Studio began in September and will welcome a few more students to join mid-year. Michelle Miller, Middle and Upper School Guide who leads the Land and Livestock program, is teaching the Gardening Studio. Join Ms. Michelle and the current participants as they learn about the land under their feet and the components of starting and managing a garden. The program provides the opportunity of responsibility for the garden plots on the Lead Mine Campus and collaboration with the Land and Livestock Program at the Brier Creek Campus. The Studio meets on Mondays until May 20, 2024. 

 

*There are some dates that there will be no studios due to school events/closures. Parents will receive an email with these dates after registration.

Studios Cancellation Policy

To cancel or make changes to a Studio registration, a written request must be made to auxiliaryprograms@msr.orgChanges to registrations will automatically be charged a $25 administrative fee. Cancellation requests will receive the following refund based on when the request was made:

  • At least 14 days prior to the program's start date: FULL refund
  • 13 days or less prior to the program's start date: No refund, plus an administrative fee of $25
