Playing to Learn—and to Win!
Organized sports begin with Upper Elementary teams (grades 4-6), continue with Middle School teams (grades 7 and 8) and finish with Upper School teams (grades 9-12). We field ten competitive teams: boys’ and girls’ basketball, co-ed cross country, co-ed golf, boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ tennis, baseball, co-ed swimming and girls’ volleyball. As a member of the Triangle Middle School Conference, MSR student-athletes have the opportunity to participate in an established league with conference tournaments and championships each season. Sport offered each season depend on student interest.
MSR has a "no-cuts" policy and all interested students in grades four through eight are invited to practices. Students in grades six through eight will comprise the majority of our teams, while fifth graders, per conference rules, will participate in games as needed to form a team. Our fourth graders spend their inaugural year of education-based sports to practice skill development and observe game situations, though not participating in actual game play within our conference.
