The MSR Upper School Honor Society sponsored its first MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 18, 2021. Sixteen upper school students came to the Brier Creek campus to give back and make a difference at their school.
The students pressure washed the basketball court, created artwork for the Upper School building, and helped with laying the bricks for a new labyrinth designed and laid out during the Zen Den occupation.
This student-led effort reflects the Montessori and IB Diploma Programme approach to service. At MSR, from the Toddler program to 12th grade, service learning is designed to cultivate a sense of personal and social responsibility and genuine engagement in service. In other words, it's not just something MSR students do, it's part of what MSR is together as a community.
Congratulations to all involved in this inaugural MLK Day of Service.
