Montessori education places a great emphasis on community and encourages children at every age level to understand how they can contribute in meaningful ways to their community and the wider world. This week, the learners in MSR's Toddler program got a hands-on experience with what it means to give to others.
Through a new partnership with our local Meals on Wheels, the children created valentines that will be delivered to area seniors receiving a meal through the Meals on Wheels program. Meals on Wheels currently helps nearly 2.4 million seniors annually by delivering meals and supporting independent living in virtually every community across the U.S.
“We wanted to introduce the children to the idea of care for others, of service,” says Cathy Bocklage, a member of the Toddler faculty. “It was a very positive experience for the children.” And for their valentines, too.
