Elementary Assistant Teacher

Job Description
Status: Full-time/Exempt
Classification: Faculty
Supervisor: Director of Lower School
Location: In-person instruction at the Lead Mine Campus
Hours: Monday - Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

The Montessori School of Raleigh (MSR) seeks an Elementary Assistant for the 2021/2022 school year. Under the general direction of the Director of the Lower School, the ideal candidate will assist classes at the elementary level during the school day and lead elementary after school care following school.


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education or a related field
  • Montessori credentials preferred (AMI or AMS)
  • Minimum two years teaching experience at the elementary level

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Adhere to AMS guidelines and professional standards
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students in the classroom
  • Assist the Montessori Director/Directress to challenge each child to reach his/her fullest potential academically, emotionally, and physically in a prepared Montessori environment
  • Support the work of the Montessori Director/Directress by assisting in the preparation of activity and project materials, maintaining the inventory of the classroom, and supervising classrooms
  • Provide a supportive and collaborative partnership with the Lead teacher by consistently communicating
  • Collaborate and participate within a divisional team and with interdisciplinary teachers 
  • Maintain a supportive and collaborative partnership with administration and colleagues to assist with curriculum development and implementation within the context of the School's overall program and mission
  • Participate in ongoing professional development
  • Attend all required faculty and team meetings
  • Participate in before-care, after-care, lunch, recess, and/or carline coverage, and parent education nights, as assigned
  • Assist the Montessori Director/Directress with maintaining and participating in home/school partnership by being open to constant and consistent communication
  • Partner with Student Support Team to ensure student success and developmental readiness
  • Commit to the mission of The Montessori School of Raleigh
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external community members
  • Act in a manner that emulates the school's core values of respect, integrity, community, and love of learning
  • Other duties as assigned by Head of School and Division Director

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The Elementary Assistant can expect to:

  • Work in a fast-paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment, with periods of time outdoors
  • Supervise groups of students and regularly engage with parents, staff, and visitors
  • Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds
  • Turn, bend, and reach
