Position Summary
The Montessori School of Raleigh (MSR) seeks an Art Teacher for the 2023/2024 school year. Under the general direction of the Middle and Upper School Director, the ideal candidate will lead art classes for Middle & Upper School (grades 7 - 12). This position will also support independent studies with Upper School students.
Overview
Established in 1974, MSR is a vibrant and exceptional independent Montessori and International Baccalaureate (IB) World School school in the Triangle area serving 400+ students aged 6 weeks through 18 years. MSR is committed to the intellectual, ethical, and personal development of our students. Our beautifully designed and well-maintained Lead Mine Campus, situated on 10 acres in North Raleigh, comprises five buildings in a child-centered, village-like setting surrounded by wetlands and protected forest. Our Middle and Upper Schools are housed on an expansive 40-acre wooded campus in Brier Creek in Durham. Both sites were carefully planned and constructed to provide the nature-centered environments integral to Montessori practice. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field
- Montessori or IB credentials preferred
- Minimum five years teaching experience at various age levels
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Adhere to AMS and IBO guidelines and professional standards
- Ensure safety and well-being of students in the classroom and on campus
- Establish and deliver art education scope and sequence curriculum
- Create and foster a learning environment that produces agile thinkers, poised communicators and gracious collaborators
- Maintain a supportive and collaborative partnership with faculty and administration to assist with curriculum development and implementation within the context of the School's overall program and Mission
- Participate in ongoing professional development
- Attend all required faculty and team meetings
- Participate in lunch, recess, and/or carline coverage, and parent education nights, as assigned
- Collaborate and participate within divisional team
- Maintain and participate in a home/school partnership by being open to consistent communication
- Implement and participate in meetings involving Student Support Plans as needed
- Maintain student record keeping, lesson planning, parent reports, and parent conferences
- Serves as a chaperone on field trips (day and overnight) as needed.
- Be available to parents through written communication, setting up conferences, and educating parents in Montessori and/or IB philosophy.
- Other duties as assigned by the Middle & Upper School Director or Head of School.
- This position might have the ability to participate as a coach for various sports teams at MSR, depending upon skills and experience.
