Culture of Safety & Security
The Montessori School of Raleigh prioritizes the physical, social, and emotional well-being of our students and has integrated daily practices to ensure our Montessori and International Baccalaureate students have a safe and supportive environment to learn, grow, and thrive.
Student Health & Well Being
MSR's School Nurses provide on-site care for students and have oversight on student medical plans and needs.
Our Student Support Team, led by our Director of Student Support & School Psychologist, provides students emotional and learning support through regular interdisciplinary lessons, small group discussions, and one-on-one sessions. Visit our Social-Emotional Learning webpage for more information.
Culture of Safety & Security
All employees at MSR complete yearly safety trainings that ensure best safe-school practices including certification in CPR and First Aid, playground and active supervision strategies, physical security measures, visitor management, and late drop-off/early pick-up protocols. Employees are also prepared to educate students on safety practices, and to support regular safety drills including fire, severe weather, and lockdown drills on both campuses.
MSR has built a cooperative partnership with local law enforcement in both Raleigh and Durham to support the school's preparedness for safety and crisis situations.
Our Director of Technology oversees cyber-security efforts to protect our students as they learn to navigate and utilize technology. As part of curriculum, the school offers a robust digital citizenship program to ensure students are prepared to use technology responsibly. Visit our Technology webpage for more information.
Visiting Our Campuses
All visitors are expected to adhere to the school's visitor policies to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and community. All visitors are held to a standard of grace and courtesy while on School property. Additionally, as we continue to promote safety on both our campuses, visitors are required to:
- Sign in and out at the Main Office at the host campus;
- Wear a visitor's badge for the duration of their visit; and,
- Stay with the assigned escort, unless the visitor has completed a school-issued background check.
If a visitor needs assistance while on campus, they should visit the security/front desk and school personnel will direct you. Visitors are not permitted in classrooms without the express permission of the classroom teacher.
In the event of an emergency, visitors are expected to participate in drills and evacuations alongside all employees and students. The host employee will provide guidelines to the visitor in the event of an emergency.
Permission must be granted prior to each visit to MSR's campuses. Approval to visit MSR's campuses is limited to the scheduled date and time of the visit/event.
Student visitors touring with the Enrollment Management Office or shadowing with a current student are expected to stay with their student chaperone, adjust to the working atmosphere of the School, and abide by all rules for enrolled students. Permission for a student visitor to be on campus must be obtained in advance from the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management.
Visitor and parent cooperation with safety protocols like late drop-off, early pick-up, and visitor sign-in procedures plays an important role in maintaining a safe and well-organized environment on campus. These simple actions are key to our overall safety program, strengthening our shared commitment and helping to build and reinforce a culture of safety.
