Admission Timetable

Enrollment Procedures for New Students

Make an appointment to attend a Wednesday morning orientation session which all prospective parents must attend. Sessions are offered year-round from 9 to 11 a.m. Please plan to be present for the entire two hour session.

These information sessions include:

  • An introduction to the School's philosophy and methodology
  • A tour of the campus and educational environments
  • An extended question and answer session with the Head of School, the Director of Admissions, and faculty from different class levels.
To be considered for admission at the Montessori School of Raleigh, families must complete the following steps.

1. Complete and submit the application form & nonrefundable $100 application fee to the School office.

2. If there are openings in the appropriate level, the Director of Admissions will contact you and ask that you submit further materials and arrange for a visit to MSR with your child. At that time you and she will discuss timetables, materials, and dates for such a visit.

  • Younger students attend one on one interview with the parents.
  • Elementary students submit records from previous schools attended. (Download form) We will schedule a 30-minute student meeting with one of our Montessori Directors while parents meet with the other Montessori Director.
  • Elementary students also will be invited to spend a full day in the classroom. Upon acceptance, complete and return Enrollment Contract with non-refundable tuition deposit plus New Family fee within 10 days from interview.

3. After the visit, the Admissions Committee will review all materials received and make a decision about the appropriateness of the MSR program for the applicant. If accepted, an acceptance letter and enrollment contract will be mailed to you. This letter includes information about deadlines and deposits.

The Montessori School of Raleigh is a member of the Triangle Consortium of Schools whose members recognize that their individual timetables for the admissions process are as unique as their schools themselves. They want to assure you that they are willing to accommodate the needs of families who have applied to more than one of the schools.

A student is considered enrolled ONLY when the Advance Tuition Deposit is paid and a contract is signed and returned to the School. All subsequent paperwork required for matriculation must then be completed by the indicated deadlines.

Current students and are re-enrolled in February.

Siblings of current students complete the application process and are enrolled in February.

New student enrollment begins in March.

At all other times of the school year, admissions are done on a "rolling" basis: that is, children are both considered and accepted as and when spaces become available.

In its effort to create a model educational environment true to the philosophy of Dr. Montessori, relatively even distribution of boys, girls, and ages is critical to the success of each three year developmental cycle in which the students are grouped. The School thus reserves the right to select children for admission to the School on the basis of their age, gender, and/or current grade in school.

But I think, by and large, the thing that seems to be the most consistent is that children leaving Montessori are more independent, they are independent thinkers, problem solvers, collaborators and communicators. Far exceeding, for the most part, many of their peers. —Upper Elementary director
