Procedures/Policies

There are three steps to take to become part of The Montessori School of Raleigh.

  • Visit the school.
Each Wednesday from 9 until 11 a.m., we host a Parent Information Session. They include an introduction to our philosophy and methodology, a tour of the campus, observation of classrooms, and an extensive Q&A with the Head of School and faculty members.

  • Complete and submit application forms and fees.

  • Bring your child for an interview.
Younger students attend one on one interview with the parents.

Elementary students submit records from previous schools attended. (Download form) We will schedule a 30-minute student meeting with one of our Montessori Directors while parents meet with the other Montessori Director.

Elementary students also will be invited to spend a full day in the classroom. Upon acceptance, complete and return Enrollment Contract with non-refundable tuition deposit plus New Family fee within 10 days from interview.

Current Students are re-enrolled in February.
All new applications are due by January.
New student interviews begin in February.
Except Elementary and Middle School, mid year admissions are done on a "rolling" basis: that is, children are both considered and accepted as and when spaces become available.

Admission Priorities

The following priorities are observed in determining admissions:

  • Currently enrolled students (re-enrollment must be received before the deadline)
  • Siblings of currently enrolled students
  • Balance of age and gender in the classroom
  • Legacy Students
  • Transfer students from other Montessori schools

Admission Policies

Acceptance of any applicant is based on the child's readiness for the Montessori program as determined by child-guide-Director interviews and the parents' expectations of the school.

In its effort to create a model educational environment true to the philosophy of Dr. Montessori, relatively even distribution of boys, girls, and ages is critical to the success of each three year developmental cycle in which the students are grouped. The School thus reserves the right to select children for admission to the School on the basis of their age, gender, and/or current grade in school.

MSR does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, color, nationality, or ethnic origin.

Children’s House is a safe, wholesome, nurturing environment that yields a child who is happy, as well as a child who thinks for himself, understands why he behaves a certain way, has begun to internalize the value of hard work, and takes joy in true learning, setting him on a lifelong path of discovery and continued maturation as a complete big person.
